There is the shopping cart/online order form, the Internet merchant account facility and lastly, Secure Payment Gateway. A shopping cart/online order form is a type of tool that is used to facilitate the entire selection activity of the consumer. Simply put, the consumer will be selecting a number of items from the catalog and then using the shopping cart/online order to place all purchases.

The Internet Merchant Account Facility is used to basically receive all online credit card payments manually. The merchant would have to re-key all customer's credit card numbers into the EFTPOS facility, but the drawback of this system is that the transaction isn't done in real time.

And then there was Payment Gateway. Secure Payment Gateway is ideal for e-commerce because all credit card transactions are done and authorized on real time. Secure Payment Gateway, can complete the transaction and make payments directly to the merchant's bank account.

However, with online payments and secure payment gateway, there is usually a number of fees to be done like set-up, annual and the per transaction charges.

(Caroline Blair, a native from Boston, has effectively lectured on the “Importance of Secure Payment Gateways to today's web wondering Entrepreneur”and has deemed a significant amount of praise for her contribution to Cambridge Business Students by raising the bar in terms of Risk Management Modules and e Commerce importance)
